Relationship Between Cannabis and Autism
Autism is a pathology that affects around 70 million people worldwide.
According to a report from the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC), cases of autism in children have increased by 15% in recent years, with boys being the most common cases. Although the underlying causes of autism are unknown, there are several risk factors that may contribute to the increase in this condition, such as:
- Couples becoming parents later in life - the older the parents, the greater the risk
- Genetic mutations
- Diseases during pregnancy
- Premature births at just 37 weeks
What is autism?
Autism is a developmental disorder that compromises communication and social interaction skills. Depending on the severity of the problem, autism is divided into three distinct groups: Asperger syndrome, autistic disorder (classical autism) and pervasive developmental disorders.
Autism manifests itself through several symptoms, which affect the child and their development, such as:
- Difficulty playing make-believe
- Weak social interactions
- Verbal and nonverbal communication problems
In addition, there is regressive autism which leads to the loss of acquired skills, and is manifested by the following symptoms:
- Aggressive behavior
- High sensitivity in the 5 main senses - sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste
- Repetitive body movements
- Abnormal attachment to some object
- Communicating through gestures instead of words
- Do not participate in interactive games
- Being hyperactive or very aggressive
- Developing language very slowly or not at all
Typically, autism symptoms appear around the age of 2, especially introspection, aggression and communication difficulties. This age requires special attention from parents, in order to detect any abnormal behavior in the child and seek medical help.
How Can Cannabis Help?
There are still many doubts about the origin of autism and what effect it has on the human body. Many families, dissatisfied with the results obtained through the treatments available on the market, decided to try using CBD oil, and the results have been very positive, for example: calmer children, increased social interaction, children looking into their mother's eyes for the first time, among others.
The Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem conducted a study in which they treated a group of 120 children and young adults with autism, using oils with a high concentration of CBD, in order to observe the results obtained.
This study revealed that CBD has several benefits when used in patients with autism, such as: reducing anxiety, reducing seizures and self-injurious behaviors, as well as regulating sleep and improving social interactions.
Family testimonies also reveal that CBD alleviates the side effects caused by traditional medications, including antipsychotics, which are often prescribed to children with autism.
With the evolution of science and the dissemination of knowledge, several studies have been carried out in order to specifically clarify the role of CBD in our body.
From the studies and reports presented, we have concluded that CBD is a good candidate for treating autism problems.
CBDOIS offers a wide range of products that may be the solution to your problem, and if you are worried that your child does not like the taste of the oil, we have two flavored oils available: pineapple and cherry.
Each person reacts differently to CBD, so the dosage to take is different from person to person, the same applies to the type of oil to take. Whenever possible, treatment should be done under medical supervision.
May we broaden our horizons to try new natural treatments to treat symptoms associated with autism.
