CBD Dosage
Each person has a unique experience with CBD oil. The effects vary from person to person, so we cannot define an exact dosage, because in addition to its effects being unique to each person, they depend on the following factors:
- Age
- Weight
- Sex
- Tolerance
- Taking medication
Finding the ideal dosage that suits you always requires adjustments and experimentation, especially in the first few days of use. The first steps require patience and perseverance so that you can achieve the right results with the right dosage . The good news is that its use is completely safe and has practically no associated risks. If you don't know or are unsure of what to do with your oil, read this article until the end.
However, there is a sample guide that reflects the most consistent and commonly used dosages that can serve as a starting point. Weight is an important factor as it influences dosage. Those who are heavier may require a higher dose than those who are lighter. This is shown in the following table:

So, how to do it?
Generally, you should start with a low dosage and slowly increase the dose if you are not seeing the desired effects.
Many frequent users find that a dose of between 10 and 20mg taken once or twice a day is sufficient to give a satisfactory effect.
However, there are people who take a completely different approach and only take between 1 and 3 mg, with some taking it once a day and others taking it every 12 hours.
Whichever method you choose, make sure you start with a low dose and increase it if you don't see any effect.
Although we do not give any personal recommendations or indications in this article, we can nevertheless mention that people with the following symptoms/pathologies generally start by:
- Anxiety/Depression: 6mg (3 drops of 5%)
- Chronic/Acute Pain: 12mg (6 drops of 5%)
- Insomnia: 4.5mg (2 drops of 5%)
Please note that the above numbers are merely indicative and the 5% oil used is an example of drops.
Duration of effects
As with the amount to take, the duration of the effects can vary from person to person . For some, a daily dose may be enough to provide some relief. Others need a dose in the morning and another in the evening to see relief from their symptoms.
Using the lowest dosage and frequency of administration is recommended . In addition to saving some money and making the bottle last longer, it also eliminates the slight possibility of developing some type of tolerance. Although the probability is practically zero, we do not rule out this possibility.
We recommend starting with a daily dose, either in the morning or at night, and if it does not work throughout the day, increase to twice a day. In cases where the pain is severe, for example, you can take it up to three times a day, naturally requiring this need.
With this in mind, there are people who have taken several doses, exceeding 30mg per day, and have never had any adverse effects. There are also no cases of overdose anywhere in the world, as it is impossible. According to the World Health Organization, there are no reports of any deaths associated with cannabis.
Generally, after continuous intake for a week, its effects will be increasingly prolonged, with a single intake lasting up to 24 hours, which is a factor that will depend on the person, of course.
Best times to take it
The best times to take hemp oil are:
- In the morning (before/after breakfast)
You can choose to take it as soon as you wake up (on an empty stomach) or after having breakfast. Either option will work, however, depending on the taste of the oil or any slight intolerance in your stomach without food, you may choose to take it before or after.
For stress, anxiety and pain this period of taking is recommended.
- At night about 1 hour before going to bed
Why 1 hour before bedtime? For people who suffer from insomnia, taking the oil about 1 (or 2) hour(s) before bedtime is the ideal time for the oil to produce its effects and provide the person with a restful and relaxing sleep, reducing REM phases.
You can also choose to take it every 12 hours (if you choose to take it twice a day) or every 8 hours for more extreme situations such as severe pain. Take it according to what makes you feel most comfortable and relieved.
How to take the oil?
As expected, we also clarify another pertinent question that people often ask.
CBD is most effective when absorbed directly into the bloodstream, with the most effective method being application directly under the tongue.
Therefore, to apply it in the best way, place the desired drops under your tongue and wait at least 60 seconds before swallowing . Some articles even recommend waiting more than a minute for best effectiveness.
This way, CBD goes directly into the bloodstream and does not pass through the digestive system, contrary to popular belief. Unless, of course, you swallow the oil directly without waiting at least 1 minute under your tongue.
How much CBD is there per drop?
All bottles must display the amount of CBD they contain in mg . However, the concentration does not reflect the milligrams per drop, which will be completely different, as well as its size, which may come in 10, 30 or 50ml bottles and should not confuse their concentrations.
In practical examples we explain:
- A 10ml bottle of 5% oil contains 500mg of CBD . With 220 to 240 drops in a bottle, each drop will correspond to approximately 2.2mg of CBD .
- There may be bottles with the same amount of CBD but different percentages, such as a 5% bottle with 30ml and a 15% bottle with 10ml. Both contain 1500mg of CBD. The difference between them is naturally that the 1500mg of the 5% oil is diluted in a 30ml bottle, while the 1500mg of the 15% oil is more concentrated in a 10ml bottle.
So pay attention to both the percentage and quantity of CBD in the vials. It is important to know how to differentiate between these situations so that you do not end up taking a dose that is too high compared to what you should be taking.
Below we present the approximate quantity per drop in the percentages sold, as shown in the table above:
- 1% oil = 0.4mg
- 5% oil = 2.2mg
- 15% oil = 6.5mg
- 30% oil = 13mg
- 25mg capsules = 25mg
For a dose of 6mg, for example, you would need 15 drops of 1% or 3 drops of 5% or 1 drop of 15%. Now you understand why the percentages are different, right?
